ABOUT USF

While the status of most prestigious universities was developed over one to two centuries, the University of South Florida has built a dynamic, national reputation in less than 50 years. USF is the second largest university in the southeast and among the top 20 in the nation.

The university ranks in the top national classification of the prestigious Carnegie Foundation for its excellence in research. USF's affiliations with area hospitals, including Tampa General and All Children’s in St. Petersburg, plus two located on campus -- H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Shriners Children's Hospital -- make it the center of the region's medical, biotechnology and bioscience research. USF's world-renowned researchers generate more than $171 million annually in sponsored research contracts and grants, specializing in fields such as oceanography, genetics, neurology, aging and public health, alternative fuel polymers, and advanced materials.

Located in the thriving Tampa Bay area, USF serves approximately 40,000 students on campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland, as well as its centers in downtown Tampa, New Port Richey and northern Pinellas County.

The College of Engineering (CoE) has about 2900 undergraduate and 800 graduate students - however we make up less than 10% of the total student body. Our size is large enough for us to enjoy the benefits of a large university, and at the same time small enough to make sure that our students aren’t lost in the numbers. At the CoE, everyone is treated as family. Our mission is to give you the best quality engineering education possible, and to develop your leadership skills, which are so important for your professional career. Our students are our most important responsibility, and we are here to help them attain their personal goals.
