Is it true that deciding which Engineering field to choose as a major, is the most important decision of my life?

Well, yes and no. While it is true that choosing the proper Engineering major early on can help spare years of anguish and confusion, the major you choose will neither predict nor determine your future.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average college graduate changes jobs once every three years and changes career fields two or three times in their lifetime. So, for those of you who think choosing a college major locks you into a specific career for the rest of your life, think again.

Any Engineering field will get you started, and will help you decide which discipline you want to direct your efforts and attention to. As long as you know that Engineering is right for you, the choice of an engineering field at an early stage of your studies is almost irrelevant to your long term career as an engineer.

Hello, future Engineer!

Are you a student who likes mathematics and sciences?
Do you find them challenging and fun? Do you like figuring out better and faster ways to do things that affect your everyday life? Are you creative? Do you like designing and fixing things? Do you like solving problems, and dumpster diving? If this sounds like you, why not think about engineering as a career?

Challenge yourself!

Engineering is challenging, it is exciting, financially rewarding, and you can start right here at the College of Engineering of the University of South Florida.

Take as many math classes as you can while in high school; take chemistry, biology and physics; take computer classes; develop your writing and communications skills, and when you start thinking about college, come visit the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida and learn about our accredited, state of the art engineering education in chemical, civil, computer science, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering.

What we do!

The Recruitment and Retention Office aims to increase undergraduate enrollment here at the College of Engineering of the University of South Florida.

We also hope to increase diversity by recruiting students from historically underrepresented groups. It is our goal to facilitate a smooth transition to college for graduating high school students, as well as to heighten the college experience of all students.

In order to reach our goals, we will send representatives to recruitment fairs and related forums, sponsor academic, social, and professional programs and activities, and serve as an advocate for students wishing to experience an exciting college life.

How we do it!

We provide information to potential applicants, current students, and faculty which will promote the recruitment and retention of a diverse student population.

We also coordinate recruitment and retention information (and activities where appropriate), within the College of Engineering, and cooperating as an active participant in sharing pertinent retention and recruitment information which may emanate from other organizational sources within the campus and community.

How can we help you?

We are in the process of redesigning our website to serve your needs better, and answer your questions faster.
We hope to provide you with more expeditious help and support when you have inquiries about the College of Engineering, the University of South Florida, or engineering in general.

Through our website, among many other things, you will be able to schedule a college tour, request a speaker to talk about the College of Engineering at your school, or just check out our calendar of events throughout the year.

High school students will find valuable information about pre-college programs, engineering activities they are eligible for, and many fun games, quizzes, tips, and planning steps to ensure the smoothest transition possible to college life.

High school teachers will find an equally interesting array of information about our college, and a multitude of tools and programs promoting science and engineering.

Please enjoy your visit,
and give us a call if some of your questions remain unanswered.
